I recently upgraded to the Godox AD600Pro II TTL after using the original AD600 units since 2018. I have used the originals hard for years, and the Pro II is a bigger step forward than I expected.
What I like:
The biggest difference has been reliability. After several shoots, I have had zero misfires with the Pro IIs. With the original AD600s, I might lose a frame or two during a long day of 1,000+ images. That simply has not happened with the Pro II.
Color consistency has also been excellent. The older units were good, but these are better. The light is very consistent shot to shot, which means less work later and more confidence while shooting.
Setup with the X3 trigger was almost instant. The new trigger connected to the lights in seconds, and I was shooting right away. No fiddling, no troubleshooting.
Recycle time is extremely fast. When shooting sports banners and holding the shutter down to catch the right expression, the lights just keep up. It honestly feels closer to shooting video frames than traditional flash photography.
A small but useful detail: the group indicator lights. I often cannot see the control panel from where I am shooting, so being able to glance at the light and know which group it is in is surprisingly helpful.
What to be aware of:
Battery life is shorter than the original AD600s, even compared to older batteries in the original units. This is noticeable on high-volume sports shoots. I already carry spare batteries, but with the Pro II it is mandatory. In the studio, AC adapters solve the problem. In the field, you need to plan ahead.
The unit is also larger and heavier than the original series. It has not caused me any real issues, but it is something to factor in if you travel or move lights frequently.
Final thoughts:
The AD600Pro II does not feel like a small refresh. It feels like a true upgrade in the areas that matter most: reliability, consistency, and speed.
In fact, it has me seriously considering adding a third unit just for remote work. The fast recycle time and improved wireless performance make it very appealing for waterfall and field shoots where lights are placed farther away and need to fire every time.
These units are solid, and work even better than I imagined they would. Thanks, too, to the team go GoMolight for answering my many questions as I decided to upgrade and accessorize the units!
