The innovative Spiked Panda Stand from MoLight. It’s the ideal stand for outdoor photographers, and it works perfectly fine in the studio as well!
Weighing in at just 4lbs, this air-cushioned stand has one very unique feature: an attachable spike for the bottom column! Loosen both column knobs, jab the spike into the ground until the base is against the surface, retighten the column knobs, and you have extra assurance against your stand tipping over in the wind. If you want to make the stand even more rock solid, attach a stand weight to the integrated hanging spot. When testing the prototype, this combination of the spike plus a 7lb weight held the stand upright for 7 HOURS IN 12-20 MPH WINDS! This was with a 36” GoMo softbox attached!
The spike simply screws in when on location (or just leave it in place all the time). Then simply unscrew it when you need to use it indoors.
One additional unique feature are the white locking collars with the matte black finish of the center post and legs. Hence, the Panda name. But these have a feature beyond the cute name: if you work in the dark, the white collars make it much easier to locate the knobs to adjust the stand up and down.
One last detail we thought of: The spigot at the top of the stand can be easily removed and reinsert into the side of the top spigot receptacle. How cool is that? It makes it easier to get a speedlight or really any light rotated to the exact orientation you need for a particular shot.
